well the weather two days ago was a cool 25deg and sunny. Yesterday it plunged to around 3deg at night (in the day i bet you it was sub-ten). Couple with strong wind, and the fact that my uniform consists of a shirt and shorts... i nearly died. today's my day off! but it is still as cold. SUMMER. tch.

i'm a long, long way from home...
today i got sent home after 2h of work. reason being cos i got too many hours. where got? only 13h yesterday only what...
oh well treat it as a half day break la.
anyway i had fun talking to this nice prc girl about the attitudes of people working here. seems that some prc girls from the cities are having difficulty adapting to washing dishes and the like here. they work for 2h and call for a break (breaks are suppose to be assigned by the supervisors, and one does not get paid for breaks). so i guess not all china folks are the hardworking and tough people we are used to. and thais and viets are softspoken and polite. and the malaysians are very easy-going and fun people to be with. one learns alot from interaction with other people. i see some bulgarians and colombians around, shall get to know them if possible.
and hey i do miss all the fellas back home. to the dear a1s, i've placed the nice card u guys sent me in my cupboard door!
2 weeks in ohio now. yay.

gimme one!
taught the supervisor how to curse in mandarin. wang ba dan. sooner or later we'll graduate from that and move on to the powerful hokkien stuff (like the seven word mantra).
my name creates funny situations. First day of registration, cos the first letter of my name, the "Y", got its top punched off on the ID, some wise guy at the counter assumed it's a T. So he said, "Um is your name Tulong (too long)?"
Definitely not too long. One cannot be too long. DANG, i should have called myself Tony Leung or something. OH and i saw this girl with the name "You You" on her ID.
Oh i met some really fun and random people: malaysians, thais and prcs. on my day off i went off with the malaysians on a day of shopping n eating. not too bad.
Weather hit 3 deg today for a while. Nose can't take it. I NEED CHINESE FOOD and SINGAPOREAN WEATHER. GRRR.

SEND ME BAK CHOK MEE PLEASE!
i've this fantastic craving for CHINESE FOOD or SINGAPOREAN FOOD CAN? nabei.
whole day i am staring at fries, fried chicken more of those meats.
I eat cereal with coffee in the morning, then a salad at lunch n for dinner i pick up the leftovers (read: fried stuff) from the shop n top the meal up with more cereal...
I figured out i'll either die of clogged veins or starvation here.
Ok i just cracked a joke with this fun black guy. and got the whole gang laughing. hear ya? i'm one of 'em now, or trying to be. i realised that if one does not talk like them one does not get understood...
haha.

sian
how do you know when you succeed as a kitchen help?
Black co-worker: "OH MY GAWD look at 'em wash! Ya guys can come over to my place and do dishes any time man..."
how do you know if singapore is big or small?
YL: So you come from Detroit, the Motor City. Guess where is Singapore (points to my name tag)
Black Friend: Erm... China?
how do you know when your name is unique?
Lantz: "YOU-LONG?" (does scooping action between his legs)
YL: Yea VERY man.
Lantz (calls friend): "I've got this foreigner here hurhurhur he... (describing my name and my reaction)
But at least the supervisor is slack enough. i've saved money stealing food from the stall.

long day
ok my name became famous again. Americans cannot pronounce my name for nuts. My supervisor, Lantz (yea his real name), went YOU-LOOOOOONG on me in his best black rapper voice. hilarious.
and true to expectations i am now an expert chicken fillet and fries fryer, but working for 7.35 USD/h! woots. i just did a 12h shift, and graduated the day with a PhD in nightmare greasy dishwashing...
but kinda missing home right now especially the CHINESE FOOD. i can't stand the sight of a fry again.
(digress abit... the amusement park is really multinational... in the room with me is this HOT jap babe, this PRC, this black and a white girl...)
Ok sat on a few of the not so scary rides... pretty exciting! shall update with pics soon.
so that's about it... weather's heating up only now.
take care all!

First Days
So this is the first entry in US. I'm sitting outside of a hall and using their wireless. It's damn cold so my fingers ain't walking...
So after the 30h flight cum transit i am sitting on my ass in Ohio now. The people are super nice, and the food is super good and fattening. Maybe i will gain some weight.
The net's not too steady so too bad no pics for now... haha.
Did my in-processing today and then went on to shop the whole day at the "mall". the mall in US apparently means an estate sized piece of land (think: NUS), with which super markets, dept stores, bookshops and restaurants are spaced WIDE apart... 60% of the space is taken up by a BIG parking lot (pics later). Bought groceries, coffee and clothes, heh heh. The food is exceedingly unhealthy-- too oily and portions too big-- it's Cartel everyday. I ate one lunch n that's all the food i can take for the whole day.
Starting work at a fast food joint tomorrow. it's slower by 12h down here... freaking cold!!!
So ya, all guys take care k. I'll see ya round (said in best american accent)!!!

Take Me Home, Country Road...
Ok i am finally going to take the flight out of here for 3months, bound for USA.
So before I go, i wish to thank one whole big big lot of people who were damn nice and fun: the OG people, the A1 people, the ny people, the sec sch people and so many other friends and relatives who actually made leaving so much harder.
But as yet, life can and will be an adventure; seizing the day (and having paid the money), I shall be off at 2.40pm flight tomorrow, and will be back 92 days later on Aug 11!
Won't be bringing the laptop, and so depending on the altruistic index of the good people around me, i shall reply to emails, facebook stuff and generally update through this blog as and when i can grab hold of a computer. So watch this space and FB! *true as of 4am...*
Those people who are graduating, especially to adel, just and flower, i bid you guys happy job-hunting, and many happy pictures taken at commencement... for those who are doing honours or wil be in school, tell me what breadth you guys wanna take next sem ok and stay chill!
Ok guys. so long!

HARHAR
Today, to hijack kj's term, i got my BA! I AM FREAKING DONE WITH THIS SEMESTER!
But it's a cool semester anyhow, all thanks to some quite cool and random people. You know who you are.
Exams have ended therefore there is only the paltry affair of US for 3 months and the hair-pulling affair of MOE.
One more year to go for us, folks, while some skimp off to slog forever... Good luck to us all.
