You Know If You Are An English Major...

I ripped this off from a facebook wall post someone put up in a group called "English Majors Unite". Picked up some of the more hilarious stuff to share. Quite a few insider jokes to check out if you are an English Major...

You know you are an English Major if:

You feel the need to edit everything you read.

You read the scholarly introductions of books because you’re genuinely interested.

You think Shakespeare’s comedies are actually funny. (Twelfth Night and Taming of the Shrew!)

You know who the real protagonist of “Antigone” is.

You use the word “protagonist.”

Thanks to Paradise Lost, you think Lucifer is the hero of Genesis.

You know which character Frankenstein really is.

You know why “To boldly go where no man has gone before” is grammatically incorrect. (thinking of it... the whole line sounds VERY wrong. Tsk dirty-minded script-writers)

You know the difference between romance and Romance.

If you have to read Poetics one more time, someone will DIE.

You think being buried beside your true love in an open-sided casket so your bones can mingle for all eternity really shows you care. (OF COURSE. WUTHERING HEIGHTS ROCK!)

You love the smell of old books.

You know that it’s “far from the madding crowd.”

You know that David Copperfield isn’t just a magician.

You know that this is not the best of all possible worlds.

You are upset when life doesn’t happen in terms of exposition, inciting forces, rising action, a climax, falling action and denouement. (no. this is not about sex, but i guess somehow it applies...)

AND THE BEST FOR THE LAST:

I'm an English major, NOT a spelling major. So quiet [sic] asking me how to spell things off the top of my head.
